I'm currently posting from a tech camp, where I'm learning Scheme (which I do during the school year), doing logic puzzles, and building electronic stuff. The week before, I did another tech camp, where I learned Flash Animation. Before that, I did the free camps that Apple offers. I know everything they teach, but I do them because I get free stuff and get to hang out with the people who work at Apple. I'll post more later.

Harry Potter!

I'm currently at a Barnes & Noble, waiting for the final Harry Potter book to come out at 12:01. I'm posting this from directly outside of the store, where my dad is napping. I got my iPhone a couple days ago! It is so cool! I got the 8 gb version. I'll post more about it later, but I took hundreds of photos (yes, I'm insane) of the unboxing. I also took screenshots of every step of the activation process. Favorite feature? Being able to browse the web while I'm in long lines or car rides. If only AT&T's Edge network was faster and had better coverage. Here's a couple photos of the unboxing:

Summer!

It's summer! So far, I've taken swimming lessons and went to a horrible camp that I'll post about later. Today, we're about to go on a trip to Italy! I'll post if I can when we get to the airport. I'll also post about the last day of school.

In other news, the iPhone's coming out on the 29th! I'm going to get the 8 GB model when we get back from our trip to Italy, because we're going to be there on the 29th. I also can't wait for when Leopard comes out in October. I was reading a live-blog of the WWDC keynote a while ago and there are some really cool features that will be in Leopard.

Anyways, I'll post at the airport if I can. It's going to be an overnight flight!

Google and Apple!

A month ago, while we were in California, I went to Google and Apple! I drove by Google and took photos (and 2 rocks, a twig, and 5 dead flowers), and afterwards went to the Apple Company Store and took photos of the Apple headquarters. It was the best day of my life!
The rocks, twig, and flowers are part of my little Google shrine in my room.

Ice Skating

Today my little sister and I went ice skating. I just went in circles around the rink while holding onto the side. I was able to do this 5 times. We spent about 50 minutes there, so I went around once every 10 minutes. It was my first time skating in about 3 years. I had a lot of fun!

Worst. Charger. Ever

I just wrote a pissed off review at Apple on their page for the MagSafe Power Adaptor. It is the worst adaptor ever. It has 2 out of 5 stars based on 290 reviews. My review has been censored by Apple because I used the word Crap in the title. The MagSafe adaptor is magnetic (hence the name MagSafe) so that if you trip on your cord, it pops out. This is not always true. Here's my review (Not yet published):

Worthless.

I have had my MacBook Pro for a long time, and I have never been more angry at Apple in my life. First of all, this charger is weak. It breaks every month. Right now I'm holding the charger in a special position just to get it to flicker off and on. Second, it's supposed to pop out if you jerk it. It does this ¼ of the time.

Worst. Charger. Ever.

(I had to change some of what I wrote because Apple didn't like it.)

Dear Apple: Please recall the MagSafe Adaptors.

Email Purging

I'm currently in the process of purging my email. I started out with 2,485 unread emails in my inbox and 0 unread in my trash, but now I have 1970 unread emails in my inbox and 515 unread in my trash. 90% of them are spam. I've noticed that there are 4 main types of spam: Random words strung together spam, Stock spam, Store spam, and Drug spam. Nowadays you see more subliminal spam. Subliminal spam is put together using at least 2 frames. One is the BUY! BUY! BUY! frame, and the other is the actual message:

Fire Drill

Yesterday we had a fire drill. We were in a single file line, walking at regular pace, stopping for other classes coming through. Everyone was calm. If there was a real fire, we'd be screaming and running in various directions and bumping into kids. I find this difference interesting.

Today at school, we were adding up all of the class's calculations for the water survey we did over the weekend. They split us up into little groups and told us to add up our total gallons per category (drinking, bath, shower, toilet, etc.). I was doing all the math. You have the noise of all the other groups on the carpet who are yelling and talking, the noise of 5 people screaming calculations in my ear, and the noise of the teachers telling us what to do. One person's total is 35, someone else's turns out to be 12 instead of 11.375. After 2 minutes this gets louder, until it is almost unbearable. I snap at someone who's telling me to hurry up, and the teacher comes over and tells me that I shouldn't snap at people. Now you have the kid I snapped at pouting. 5 minutes later I'm on the floor with the noise now okay. You have the kid who's pouting saying "Jake snaps at people when people are talking to him calmly, and now he's on the floor and he can stand it.", which is not true. People were screaming in my ear, 5 at a time. 5 minutes later, I'm back at the table doing more calculations.

Halloween Photos

Like I said, here are some photos of my previous Halloween costumes that my dad and I made, currently hanging in my room. Note: All costumes are first planned by drawing dimensions and sizing.

2006: Google Homepage

For this costume, we first printed out the Google homepage and got it enlarged at Staples. Next, we used two slabs of Plexiglass to sandwich the enlarged copy of the Google homepage, with halloween as the search term. We then built a frame (monitor) to house the Google homepage. Finally, we added a strap to go around my neck.

2005: iPod

For this costume, we first made the screen for the iPod on my Windows and Mac computers. We then printed it out and glued it onto a piece of construction board. Next, we made the frame for the screen and put shiny silver paper on all sides (except for the bottom). We made the scroll wheel and earbuds and drilled a hole on the top for lightsticks. Finally, we put a strap on.

2004: Cell Phone

For this costume, we first cut out four rounded pieces for the cell phone. We used Styrofoam to keep the pieces together. We then cut holes for the buttons and put the buttons on. Finally, we put the silver sides on, taped it together, and put holes in for the lightsticks.

2003: Powerbook G4

For this costume, we first glued a skinned keyboard onto a piece of cardboard and covered the cardboard with a gray plastic sheet. Next, we took a screen capture of a Dock, glued it onto cardboard, and glued it onto the costume. Next, we glued sandpaper onto the costume for the mousepad. Next, we took a blue plastic sheet, drew on it, and glued it onto the costume for the desktop background. Finally, we drew the final features on with permanent marker and put a strap on.

Tech Classes

Today was my first day of computer science classes in Raleigh. A week or two ago, I took a advanced course aptitude test, involving flowers and binary trees. I passed! So now, I get to be in a 6 to 10th grade class. For 2 hours each Saturday, you sit in front of a computer that gives you instructions. Today, we learned about various things such as lists like these,

and many other things. I like it so far, so I'll keep doing it. You can also do it at home or anywhere with internet. Today, I got 91% correct.

Dell Support

I'm currently on hold with Dell Support about my Dell that stopped working after I downloaded a Ford screensaver. Pretty good so far, the guy can speak a fair amount of English. But, he thinks I'm a woman. With my child voice, I get how he could mistake me for a woman. I'm on wait for the 3rd time, listening to bad pop music. The robot was pretty stupid at the start. It's better than having my tech-intolerant dad speak to them. I'll let you know how it turns out.

A couple days ago, I was reading Firestarter by Stephen King at outside time. One of my teachers told me that it was a school rule that you couldn't read at recess. I was amazed. Recess is for kids to have fun. It's the one time of the day where most kids can have fun. I have fun at school, but I'd rather not spend my break time running around in circles. I'd rather do something intellectual, like read or write. The next day I brought in my book again, thinking I could slip by and read again. This worked for 5 minutes until my other teacher came over, literally pulled the book out of my hands, and told me to go play. I spent the next 20 minutes sitting next to a tree in the forest because I was bored. The next thing that happened was a kid coming that a teacher sent over to tell me that I should be doing something rather than sitting with the trees. I responded by saying that I could be doing something if I was reading. This whole thing is just stupid.

State What?

I like school a lot of the time, but sometimes I just hate it. Same as every other kid. This year, the theme is North Carolina. I already know this: Whatever I grow up to do, it will have nothing to do with knowing the state dog. I'm mainly interested in computers, not our pollen-filled state. So far, in the first week I've learned the state dog, state flower, state tree, state fish, and every other state thing there is to know. What's next? State pollen, state smell, just come on.

First Day of School

Well, today's the first day of school. I'm pretty excited because I like school a lot. The first day is a half day. This year, my sister's going full day too. This must be a holiday for mom and dad.

On a side note, Blogger is showing a dog with a party hat instead of the Blogger B in their logo. It's for their birthday! Happy 7th birthday, Blogger! (Blogger was launched in August 1999 by Pyra Labs)

I couldn't help reading this post on the Google Blogoscoped Forum.

If you were given the right to decide inclusion of three new products to Google. Two to develop internally, one by acquiring another company or its product. What would they be?

It is preferred that you don't refer to the current suspected projects (like Google Drive, or Google Presentation)

Google Virtual Tour – See a house, apartment, airplane, or anything with Google Virtual Tour. View in real time by installing mini Google cameras into your location, or use Google Earth data. You may also use your own footage. Unlike other virtual tour programs, you can view in high quailty so it feels like you're inside of the place! Disclamer: Footage may be sold to other compaines.

Google Pets – Do you need pet information quick, but cheap? Don't spend $100 on pet books you'll never read, just use Google pets! For only $5 a month, have access to a wide range of pet information! Whether it's how much Vitamin C a guinea pig needs to how often to groom your dog, we've got it all.

Gwigle is an educational game to help you use Google more effectively. It gives you a sample Google Search with the word(s) searched blanked out in question marks. A similar game is What Did I Search For? on Games For The Brain by Philipp Lenssen of Google Blogoscoped. Some of these can be really hard, while others can be easy.

Hey everyone. I've got a lot to do, so I'll try to squeeze some time in for this. I'm working on the newspaper. I've only got 9 days to do it. Besides that, I'm posting on Google Blogoscoped in the forum and on the Googolians forum a lot. I worship Google. I read MOM and APPLE PIE a lot. It's a good blog. It's by my former teacher. I'm currently posting on my old iBook because my other computer's mouse is broken. Using my wireless mouse worked for a while, but then it messed up too. I'm also the webmaster for a blog. I've found the template, installed Site Meter, done the blogroll, added a Digg This! button, and much more. I've also got someone else who wants me to help them work on a site. Well, I gotta go now.

I’m trying to do a monitor chain. Please photograph this blog post (including your monitor and its immediate surroundings), and post the resulting pic on your blog. Then the next person photographs your blog post and posts it, and so on. I've got some quick updates to post:

Me and my sister have got 2 guinea pigs from the shelter. Mine's named Google, and my sister's is currently named Pumpkin. Today we put them together. Pictures later.
Our relatives are coming to our house this week to meet our aunt's baby.
I am doing 30% of the shopping in the house.
I've got 30 days to create issue 2 of our newspaper.
I've got 2 swimming practices each week, and my arms are hurting terribly after each practice.

Grafedia is hyperlinked text written onto physical surfaces that links to media content - images, video, sound files, etc. It can be written anywhere. Postcards, tattoos, sidewalks, walls, anywhere! People send a message addressed to the world + @grafedia.net to get the content.

How do you make it?

Teaching!

Hey everyone. I'm currently in the class I'm teaching about computer skills. This class is for rising 1st and 2nd graders. I was just taking around 190 photos of the kids for a surprise I'm doing. Yesterday, I was helping them do a Incredibles game. Not what I am trying to teach. Today, I'm going to try to ease them on to online games, and to do that, I will show them how to use Google. If I have to show them how to do Google, I'll have to teach them how to use a keyboard and about Google, etc., etc. Then I'll get some actual teaching done. Even though the Incredibles game teaching kids basic computer skills, if it's embedded in a game, they'll likely forget it. A lot of kids want to learn! I'm surprised. I would think there wouldn't be a lot. I gotta go back now. Kids are waiting. That's it for now!

Hey everyone. Sorry I didn't post for Independence Day/4th of July. I was doing fireworks, sparklers, and baking cookies. I'm going to be teaching basic computer skills to little kids at a camp. I bought some games and a regular mouse to use. I'm creating lesson plans to show to the teachers/parents. I can't wait! Also, I just yesterday read a post on a blog I read obsessively called Google Blogoscoped. It's a blog by Philipp Lenssen from Stuttgart, Germany about "80% Google, 20% Everything Else". It's the first website I go to in the morning. I also post in the forum as Jake's View. Speaking of blogs, I posted this morning on my Photo Blog. Road Trip

Hey everyone! I'm currently in Salt Lake City. We flew here from L.A. Today we will be starting the driving portion of this trip. We are driving from here to Jackson, WY. We'll be driving in a Volvo. We went to the pool at both hotels. At this hotel, we had two connecting rooms that were secured by a door. Right where the hallway ends, there's a door. If you open that door, you get our two side by side rooms. Each room has a doorbell. While we were at the pool, I counted how long I could stay underwater. It was 19 seconds. That's all for now!

Kauai

Aloha, everyone! I'm currently in Kauai, about to leave for L.A. The big thing was that me and my dad went on a 4-hour sunset cruise along the Na Pali coast. It was really fun! I'll post the pictures from the cruise/Big Island and write more about the cruise from L.A. Aloha for now!

Big Island

Aloha, everyone. Today we're heading over to another island. Big Island's been great! Our hotel is so big, it has its own monorail and boat systems! It also has a lot of pools, with bridges and water slides! I went on the water slide 4 times, (my first time on a water slide!), before we had to leave. It had a small sand pool area. The only other thing we did, is go to the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. A 3-hour drive each way. I set up my mom's phone to work as a NAVI system. When we got there, we saw a lot of lava. I collected some rock samples and a seed pod from the dried lava. They had a ranger station with two bathrooms (holes in the ground). There was markings that went over the lava as pathways. We got to see fresh lava melting into the water. Aloha for now!

Aloha, everyone! Sorry I didn't post when we got here. I'm currently in Maui, getting ready to leave for Big Island. So far, it's been really fun here. We did 4 main things.

We went on a semi-submersible called The Reefdancer.
We went on a helicopter ride.
We saw Drums of the Pacific.
We saw Tour of the Stars.

My favorites were The Reefdancer and the helicopter ride. When we were boarding the helicopter, the book I was reading flew out of my hand from the wind from the rotors. Drums of the Pacific was a luau show that we went to. Tour of the Stars is when we went up to the roof of the Hyatt we were staying to look through telescopes. I found the Hubble, but the astronomer said that it was something different, but he realized that it was the Hubble. We got candy and a star chart.

I also got a lot of stuff. A painting, leis, starfish, shells, cloth, and more! Aloha for now!

At The Airport

Hey everyone. Right now I'm at the airport, waiting to fly into Houston, then Maui. Our flight has been delayed until 12:09 PM. I'll post as soon as I can after this. We stopped at the food court to eat, then we went over to one of those bookstore-like shops and got me a Macaddict magazine, and a mini DK book. For this flight, we're flying coach, then first class. I'll post pictures from Maui. I hear the hotel has a great pool! My favorite part will probably be the beaches. That's all for now!

School's Out!

Hey. Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I've been busy with school ending. June 2nd was our last day of school. Bad for me, because I like school. Also, today and yesterday I've been distributing the newspaper that I made. 100 copies. We put them on doorknobs for homes, and we just handed them to store managers. We dropped off half of the copies to the pool and the ice cream/hot dog store. 30% of the times I dropped them off at homes, I had to tell the people who decided to open the door at the exact moment I put the papers on their doorknobs, that I was not a robber, and what I was doing. 2% of those times, I got away. One of the times, I heard a little boy saying, "Mommy, someone's at the door." I made the choice to sprint down the 21 steps as fast I could, to avoid from another annoying conversation with a complete stranger. Also, we're going on a trip to Hawaii and Yellowstone tomorrow. B.E.A. was fun. I got a whole lot of free stuff. What I really liked is the fast-paced atmosphere. By the way, has anyone heard of Crocs? These are my favorites. I ordered some a couple days ago. I gotta get ready for the trip, so bye for now!

Well, it's finally time to go. 6 hours. One way. In the car. Oh, crap. I'll be sitting in the only clean section of a barbecue-stained Lexus. Oh, well. Hey everyone. Grandparents day was pretty good. First, the grandparents came into the gym to hear both of the classes songs. The song that we sang was the weather song we made when we were studying weather. Then, they went into our class. We showed them around and did a scavenger hunt. My dad's dad and my mom's parents came. My dad's mom had to work. Mother's day was after that. I made a letter and pop-ups at school. One of my teachers posted on this blog to remind me. Also, we're going to D.C. on Friday. I have to miss field day for it. This year, the city shut down the field, so we would have had to do it on the playground. I hope D.C. will be fun. I'll post when I can. We're driving there. 6 hours. Oh, *bleep*.

Hey everyone. Sorry I didn't post after the flight back. It was pretty good. Today, it was pretty normal. One of my friends from my class played the violin in music class today. He was great! I don't play the violin, but I do play the piano. I'm pretty good. He played 3 songs. The 2nd and 3rd songs were my favorites. Also, Grandparents' Day is in two days! I can't wait for it. Both sets of my grandparents (except for my dad's mother) are coming. I get priority over my sister this year because I didn't get to have my grandparents come last year.

At the hotel & My birthday

Hello everyone. Sorry I didn't post yesterday. I was busy at the mall. Our hotel is connected to a mall. The flight here was sorta good. We flew a AA puddle jumper. We had to wait at our airport for an hour after the plane was supposed to leave. When we got here, we rented a Avis car. I set up Avis Assist for my family. By that time, we were all about to die. After we regained our strength and ability to move our legs, we went over to the mall. I got iLife 06' at the Apple store. I paid for it with my Apple gift card from my birthday. My mom owes me 21 dollars. $20 because I got a family pack, and $1 for tax. After that, we went to the pool. My sister kept swimming into my lane while I was doing backstroke. Then, we had dinner. When dinner was done, we went to Auntie Anne's for my treat. The *bleep* pretzel was burnt and had no salt. I threw it out. My little sister spent all of her money on Hello Kitty and hair stuff at Claire's.

Also, my birthday was a couple days ago! I got:

The Trip and the MATs

Hey everyone. The MATs are this week. There's only one part left. I'm one of the first people done, so I have to bring a lot of books to read. You can't get up to go to the bathroom, get a book, get a drink, or even get tissues. My family and I are also going on a trip to go to a demonstration. My dad wanted to drive, but everyone else (especially me) wanted to fly. Also, I went around to some of the shops in my neighborhood to ask if they would like an ad in the newspaper I'm making. I got 6 ads, and 24 dollars. Also, the anniversary of Jake's View is on May 21. The celebration is called A Year Of Views. I'll do something special for it. I won't tell what it is until May 20.

Earth Day (almost)

Hi everyone. Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I've been busy with a lot of stuff lately. I'm posting this from school. School's been fun. In fact, today we celebrated Earth Day. Earth day is actually tomorrow, (April 22) but there's no school on Saturday. For Earth Day, we had a trash free lunch & snack at school. I brought a washable container of pretzels and a thermos full of apple juice for snack, and a baguette Nutella sandwich with a banana for lunch. We ate outside for lunch & snack. We also went to two assemblies, one before snack, and one after lunch. For lunch, we went out onto the field. After we all finished, one of my 2nd grade teachers decided to form a circle, and sing This Land Is Your Land together. After that, one of my teachers decided to jump around and sing This Land Is Your Land. Then we went to our second assembly. It was a storytelling assembly. The one before was where we sang a song with hand motions.

Yesterday we had another MAT practice test. It had 58 questions. Also, my birthday is coming soon.
